Prescription drug abuse and other timely Health Law Issues

June 26 Registration 2 p.m. | Seminar 2:30 - 4:45 p.m. 2.0 CLE - General Register

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:   practitioners in the fields of health law, criminal law, and others who want to stay up-to-date on these important issues.

OVERVIEW:  Prescription drug abuse is rampant in this state, and state officials are trying to find solutions which will stem the tide of this epidemic.  The legislature and the department have taken significant actions in the last 18 months to address this and other related issues.

We are very fortunate to have two attorneys who are “in the know” on these legislative and administrative developments.  Yarnell Beatty, the general counsel of the Tennessee Medical Association, has helped to shape much of the significant health legislation considered by the General Assembly in its last two legislative sessions.  Michelle Long, an attorney who is Assistant Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health, will bring us an up-to-date picture of the implementation of the Prescription Safety Act, Governor’s Haslam’s principal legislative initiative in 2012, and of other related actions being taken by the Department to stamp out prescription drug abuse in this state.

YOU WILL BENEFIT KNOWING

    1. 1. The details of significant health legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2013
    2. 2. The details of the Prescription Safety Act and rules adopted under that statute
    3. 3. How the Prescription Safety Act affects health care providers and law enforcement personnel
    4. 4. How the Controlled Substance Database will affect health care providers, pharmacists, and
      consumers of drugs
