lunch & learn: independent contractor or employee?

SEPT 17, 2014 Registration 11:30a.m. | Seminar 12 - 1 p.m. 1.0 CLE Hours Register

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Attorneys whose practice includes employment law and attorneys who provide legal advice to employers on a regular basis will benefit from this seminar.

OVERVIEW:  Your client is a small employer trying to cut his overhead and expenses.  He decides that one way to do that would be to treat some of the people who work for him as independent contractors rather than as employees.  Your client asks you the $64,000 question: is that legal?

By attending this CLE program, you will learn how to analyze this issue and give your client the right answer.  There are IRS rules and guidelines to consider.  There is even a list of factors that the IRS recommends to consider.  And there is extensive federal and state case law.

We are fortunate to have as our speaker an experienced employment lawyer, Irwin Venick, who represents both employers and employees in his practice.  Mr. Venick will guide us through the maze of laws, rules, guidelines, and case law that we must consider in advising our clients on this question.
