Workers Compensation Reform Act

OCT 30, 2013 Registration 2:00p.m. | Seminar 2:30 - 4:45 p.m. 2.0 CLE Hours Register

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Practitioners who need to know about the new process for handling workers compensation claims, the details about the new court to adjudicate workers compensation claims, and the new workers compensation appeal board.

OVERVIEW:  The centerpiece of Governor Haslam’s 2013 legislative package was a bill that changes Tennessee’s workers compensation law in very significant ways.  This bill was adopted by the General Assembly and became Chapter 289 of the Public Acts of 2013.

This law creates a new process for handling workers compensation claims and also creates a new court of workers compensation claims and a new workers compensation appeal board.  Mediation will also be an important part of the new process.

Contrary to the belief of some, attorneys will still play an important role in representing injured workers and in representing the companies that employ them.

Our speaker, Josh Baker, an attorney with the Division of Workers’ Compensation, helped draft the legislation and is conducting seminars throughout the state to educate interested persons about the details of the new law.

You Will Benefit Knowing:

  1.          1. The structure of the new Division of Workers Compensation
  2.          2. The schedule for implementing the new law
  3.          3. The role that medical guidelines will play under the new law
  4.          4. The new judicial system created by the law to adjudicate workers compensation claims
