Helping Students Succeed

The NBA Community Relations Committee is supporting a new initiative that offers high school students insight into a legal career.  If you are interested in helping students succeed in their academic and career goals, please consider this opportunity to get involved.

Many students do not receive real world educational training in a career interest until the end of their junior year of college. However, students might select a college, choose a major, select classes for a major, write a college application essay, and be motivated to succeed in their academics on the basis of what they want to do when they get out of college. HighSchoolInterns.com and University School of Nashville are working together to offer USN high school students the opportunity to receive real world experience in a prospective career, and to gain valuable life skills prior to college through
mini-internships.

The mini-internships are five-day, 40-hour week summer programs that start June 2nd and conclude on June 6th.  During this time, students will shadow employers and participate in administrative tasks to see what life is like in that career.  All mini-internships are non-paid educational opportunities that offer students a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a profession.

HighSchoolInterns.com, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, provides a website to connect students with career exploration opportunities, and educates students on important life skills such as resume and cover letter writing.  On the site, students can build a resume using a resume builder, write a cover letter on a cover letter template, and create a personal account to store their information.  Additionally, HighSchoolInterns.com offers student workshops on
resume and cover letter writing, professional etiquette, and interviewing.  Each applicant will submit a resume and cover letter to the employer for consideration. The employer makes the final decision on who is selected to participate.

We need your help to offer these valuable educational opportunities to students.  If you are interested in posting a legal mini-internship, please go to
www.highschoolinterns.com, and click on "Employers Start Here." For questions, you can contact a highschoolinterns.com representative at
