IMPORTANT – HEALTH CARE NOTICE REQUIREMENT IS APPROACHING

January 1, 2014 – the day of implementation of the major provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA or Healthcare Reform) – is right around the corner. What is your practice doing to prepare for this new law?

According to a recent poll conducted by a major insurance company, 55% of small businesses say that they have done nothing to prepare for reform and 75% of employees say they are relying on their employer to educate them on the changes under the new law.

The Nashville Bar Association, through its Title Sponsor – IPSCO, has been working on a tool to help our members and their practices navigate through the complexities of the new law and we are expecting to announce this valuable resource to our members prior to October 1.

In the meantime, please be aware that the new law requires most employers to provide an Exchange Notice prior to October 1, 2013 that includes information regarding the Exchange (now called the Health Insurance Marketplace). The Department of Labor (DOL) has provided two model notices. One notice applies to employers who offer a health plan to some or all employees and the other applies to employers who do not offer a health plan.
