Bench and Bar II, by David Rutherford

© 2003 Nashville Bar Foundation

In the original book, Bench and Bar, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee—published in 1981—the Honorable Jack Norman Sr. contributed the following foreword:

"Fortune has appropriately selected an able member of a distinguished legal family to compile and preserve some of the history and identity of the Nashville Bar and the public officials who have served this county.

The author has assembled here, not only the cast of the past and continuing drama of our local courtrooms, but more importantly, information about these men and women whose activities have so vitally affected each of us.

From the rolls, here recorded, one will find names which have contributed much to the history of our state and nation. Also, to be found, are the names of many which are illustrious by reason of their unusual character, ability, intellect, industry, and integrity. They abound with many remembered because of their quiet and devoted services to their professional, official, and civic responsibilities and obligations."

This compilation presents—for the first time—a listing of those responsible for the high standards of the Nashville Bar.

—Jack Norman, Sr.
