ABOUT

The Damali Booker project involves recruitment and screening of applicants for the first year minority clerkship project, which places first year diverse law students with majority firms and organizations as summer clerks. This program creates opportunities for candidates to gain experience during the summer after their first year of law school and improves their marketability, making it easier for them to gain employment during their second year and after graduation.

Several students are placed each summer as a result of this project. Beginning in 2003—the job fair was named for Damali Booker—who passed away unexpectedly in September 2002 while in her third year of law school. Ms. Booker was a participant in the Job Fair in 2001 and had accepted a permanent position with an employer she first met at the job fair.

POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS

The Nashville Bar Association Diversity Committee invites you to participate (virtually) in the 2021 Damali Booker 1L Minority Job Fair. While we will be operating from a virtual platform in 2021, we want to ensure you still get access to the best 1Ls in the country! This event provides an excellent opportunity to interview and recruit first year diverse law students who are interested in pursuing a summer clerkship and professional career in Nashville.

Information about the Job Fair is sent to over 80 law schools in the country. Last year, we had participation from 50+ 1L law students from schools across the country, many of whom were hired as first year summer law clerks or positioned for internships at the completion of their second year in law school. Employers choose the students they wish to interview and make offers to those of interest.

Even if your firm or office does not have a first year summer program, we encourage you to participate. As many employers discovered last year, this Job Fair gives you a wonderful opportunity to meet excellent diverse students for prospective employment in the future. To participate, employers are requested to pay a $100 registration fee (reduced for 2021).

In late January, we will provide to you a resume, undergrad and law school transcripts, a cover letter, a writing sample, and an interview ranking form, so you can reach out to those you are interested in interviewing. We are happy to provide a Zoom link and scheduling assistance, if needed.

Registration must be completed no later than December 18. If you are unable to participate in the Job Fair but would like to support the many successful Diversity Committee programs of the NBA, financial contributions are appreciated.
