In January 1981, the first organizational meeting of the Lawyers’ Association for Women (LAW) was held. The meeting was the result of several months of ground work by a group of women lawyers' with the intent to provide opportunities for women attorneys to become better acquainted with one another on both social and professional levels, and to further specific purposes. Those purposes were, and still are today, to:
- Work for the selection of qualified women for election and nomination to the bench.
- Continue the improvement of the overall quality of the bench.
- Encourage participation of women attorneys in existing bar organizations at committee and officer levels.
- Promote career opportunities for women lawyers.
The efforts of those founding members of LAW continue to enrich lives—both personally and professionally.
