Summary
Many attorneys enter the legal field without understanding the skills needed to become a partner, or the many traps that are in their path. Others find the partnership process to be obscure and mysterious. This seminar will shed some light on how this process commonly works in many law firms, and to offer information that can help attorneys position themselves better for a promotion. Much of the information provided can help attorneys develop their careers, even if their goal is not to be a partner.
This seminar will address common factors that affect the promotion of attorneys to partner at law firms including: understanding the promotion process at the firm and who are the decision makers; the baseline requirements most firms impose in order to consider an attorney for a promotion; the productivity metrics that must be satisfied in order to be promoted (including financial metrics and business development); the subjective considerations that come into play (such as developing substantive areas of expertise, work ethics, and quality of work product); the things that give a candidate an edge; the blunders that may doom a candidate’s prospects; and how to handle attorney evaluations.
