Summary

The AI Legal Lab: Tools, Ethics, and Transformation

Hosted by Nashville Bar Association Intellectual Property Section and Pinnacle Bank

This CLE will explore the ethical issues surrounding the use of AI in legal practice, particularly focusing on concerns such as the potential waiver of attorney-client privilege when AI tools are used to communicate with clients or summarize confidential meetings, as well as the discoverability of AI-generated summaries and records. It will emphasize the importance of professional skepticism—testing AI outputs, recognizing their limitations, and taking a “trust but verify” approach. Participants will also examine how to strategically select appropriate AI tools for different legal tasks, with a clear understanding of what each platform can and cannot do. Finally, the discussion will highlight the necessity of continuous learning to keep pace with the rapidly evolving AI landscape and ensure ethical, informed use of these technologies in legal settings.
