High School Intern Summer Program

Educator & Student Information

The Nashville Bar Association is seeking the best and brightest diverse high school students for participation in the Diversity Committee's 2020 Summer Intern Program. The program offers internships in law firms, corporate legal departments, and government law offices in Metro Nashville. This is a paid internship ($10-15 per hour) and the deadline for applications is Friday, March 13.

APPLY NOW

The program is beneficial to students interested in a legal career as it will provide students with direct and immediate access to the legal field, a paid seven week internship with a legal employer, networking opportunities with career-minded peers and lawyers, and the opportunity to gain mentors in the legal community. The program is open to diverse students who will graduate in 2020 and rising seniors (graduating in 2021).

Students will be asked to work approximately 8 hours every workday from June 1 through July 17, 2020. The program also includes an orientation on Friday, May 29, to introduce the interns to the law office environment. In addition, the NBA sponsors "Lunch and Learn" sessions every Friday during the program. These sessions will allow interns to learn more about the legal profession, how to apply to law school, how to be successful in law school, and more.

Employer Participation Information

As an employer of Nashville's legal community, the NBA seeks your participation in the high school summer intern program as you fill your firm’s administrative staff needs for the summer.

Once an employer hires an intern, the employer will be asked to assign a mentor to advise and closely supervise the intern within the firm. The mentor will be someone who the intern can comfortably talk to about their internship assignment, ask questions, and discuss concerns, and any other issues.

If you would like to participate in the program but are unable to hire an intern, please consider a contribution to the program to help cover the costs of the Lunch and Learn sessions. Please fill out the form below and send to Traci no later than Friday, March 6.
